Happy Mothers Day!
I just wanted to take a minute to recognize a few of the distinguished mothers in our family. Thank you mom for always being there. When I think of you I have so many memories of your sacrifice and giving to our family. You always put our needs before those of your own. I'm sure I didn't realize and appreciate [at the time] all of the nice things you passed up for yourself in order that us kids might get that new "_______", fill in the blank with our never ending wants, needs and request.
I'm not sure what your parenting goals were when you started but in the end, if you were looking to raise a pretty well rounded group of adults who value family, and contribute to this world with love and dedication you don't have to look very far to see that your children turned out to be just those kind. We each have a mother that we can point to who raised us with honor, grace and consistency. We knew if we disobeyed we wouldn't like the consequences and we likewise knew that if we were in trouble you would never turn us away.
You are amazing mom. You are our mom, my mom and I just want to honor you today by saying thank you for all you have ever done and I wish the most complete day of happiness and joy.
We have a lot of great moms in this Newberry (and extended) family tree. Soooo many I'm afraid to begin listing them. Happy Mothers day to each of you!
Granny Rice we love you very much as well and if it we're not for you I would not be here right now so think about that for appreciation. Thank you granny for always being the ultimate granny. Growing up you always delivered the most perfect biscuits as well as the hugs. I remember crawling up in your armchair next to you watching the Friday night favorites such as The Duke's of Hazard and Fantasy Island and feeling so loved and warm snuggled up there in that arm chair next to you. I remember you and I making trips to the old Ruskin grocery store for Mountain Dew at 9:30 at night and sitting around dialing in the police scanner for the latest weekend chase (mostly listening out for John and Tony's name to come up) - Granny you should have been an investigative reporter or a police detective - you love that stuff.
The point here is these are great and special memories to me but you are very special to each of us for very unique reasons. You had a way of connecting with us and loving us just were we were.
You did things a little differently than others. We live in an age of blended families and yet you never singled anyone out [that I have ever heard] as a 'step' anything. You accepted all of your family as your children and grandchildren. And I loved that. You just simply accepted and loved us all as equal. Thank you for showing me that kind example of unconditional love and acceptance. I know that Pops was and is proud of you as a mother and grandmother and I want you to know that I am as well. Granny you are such a very special grandmother and I love you! Your grandson, Patrick
